Fashion is fun, when it comes both to dressing ourselves and our little ones. Dressing our babies and toddlers is more often than not an extension of our own fashion preferences, when they’re not quite at that age where they can pick out an outfit for ourselves. However, the latest fashion trends are not necessarily the same when it comes to both adult and baby, with children’s clothing making a big shift to focus on gender neutral and conscious fashion, with an emphasis on practicality. In this article, we take a peek at baby and toddler clothing trends for 2021 and beyond, so we can know just what to stock up on in our babies' wardrobes!
Conscious Fashion

One of the many lessons that COVID has taught us is that we need to make better decisions in how we consume and how we purchase - and baby clothing is no exception. From birth to 6 months old, a baby will grow on average 1/2 to 1 inches per month and gain 5 to 7 ounces a week. The amount of baby clothing that is required to keep up with our constantly growing baby is substantial and the demand for both fast and cheap clothing has already led to economic and environmental damage. Eco conscious fashion allows you to reduce your impact on the environment and invest in safer, more sustainable pieces - plus, eco conscious brand Kids Stuff’s “Grow With Me” line allows you to cut down on this seemingly constant clothes buying process.
Stay At Home Chic

Comfy clothes are here to stay! Simple, comfy pieces are the main focus for our kids, babies and toddlers as we continue the “stay at home” way of life. Pieces will either be completely plain, or feature typographic messages and badges on them. We'll also see colour blocks, low shoulders and plenty of pockets. Pieces such as dress shirts, slacks and overalls will be redesigned and made with softer and lighter fabrics, evoking the comfort and convenience that we crave.
More Gender Neutral

If we were to wind back the clock just over 100 years, you’d actually be hard-pressed to tell an infant boy from an infant girl! The seemingly “classic” style of pink and pastels for girls and blues and grey for boys are becoming a thing of the past, as gender neutral clothing make their way in. The trend of gender neutral clothing is part of a growing preference to raise our children with a neutral concept of gendered identities, especially among Millenials. In fact, according to a 2018 study in Canada, 63 percent of Millennial parents are committed to this mode of parenting. Baby and toddler clothing brands are now leaving behind seemingly “gendered” animals and food items that appear as symbols for each gender, including bunnies, kittens and unicorns for girls and lions, reptiles and dinosaurs for boys. Other brands are opting not to leave these cute characters behind and are instead including them in their gender neutral clothing, further proving that no colour, animal or item belongs to a specific gender.
Cheeky Bambino is dedicated to carrying quality brands with design and comfort in mind. With many of our brands being local, eco conscious and gender neutral, we are proud to offer you high quality clothing at a reasonable price!
